Background
The Hyatt Centric Hong Kong Hotel is a 5-star hotel that was rebranded and opened in 2018, making it one of the newer higher end hotels in Hong Kong. The hotel offers stunning views of Victoria Harbour, which was definitely a highlight of our stay. However, we felt that the level of customer service was not as personalized as we would have expected from a 5-star hotel. During our extended stay of three weeks in November 2022, we enjoyed the hotel’s great amenities, including the well-equipped gym and rooftop pool. Overall, while we enjoyed our stay, we would rate the hotel more as a 4-star than a 5-star.

Where is it?
Hyatt Centric is conveniently located in the residential district of North Point, making it an ideal spot for travellers seeking a quieter neighbourhood away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong’s popular tourist attractions.
While it may not be located right in the middle of the action, everything guests need is within walking distance. The hotel is situated just a short stroll from North Point MTR subway station, and there’s a ferry terminal at the foot of the hotel that provides access to the Kowloon district in just under 10 minutes. There is also a shopping mall downstairs with various stores and restaurants, including Vietnamese, Korean, hotpot, Chinese cuisines, and a Japanese grocery store, as well as plenty of affordable local eateries nearby. Additionally, there are by-pound laundromats located downstairs, making it convenient for guests with extended stays.
What’s it like?
The hotel has a new and retro exterior with a clean and simple interior. All the hotel rooms sit facing the water offering a waterfront view for all guests. The hotel’s lobby is situated in a higher floor. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was no one to greet us at the front to guide us to the reception. Although the hotel had clear signage, we felt this was a missed opportunity for a personalized customer service experience at a 5-star hotel.
The rooms
The rooms at Hyatt Centric Hong Kong Hotel are designed to maximize the small space and have all the necessary items for a comfortable stay. During our three-week extended stay, we stayed in a King Room, which had a one-person working desk, a small couch, and enough space to lay out our luggage. Despite the limited space, the room was comfortable and served its purpose as our little home away from home during our visit to Hong Kong. The design of the room was simple and efficient, making the most of the available space.
Amenities
The Hyatt Centric Hong Kong Hotel had impressive amenities that exceeded our expectations. The well-equipped gym had multiple treadmills, weight training equipment, dumbbells, mats, and even a VR exercising machine. The gym also provided a picturesque view of the waterfront that made working out enjoyable.
The rooftop swimming pool had a stunning view and was great for gorgeous poolside photo opportunities, although the pool water was too cold, and we couldn’t enjoy it. We noticed that other guests also felt the same and wished the temperature could be adjusted to guests’ comfort and the outdoor temperature. While the staff were kind and pleasant, we didn’t feel like anyone went above and beyond to take care of us during our stay.
Food and beverage
The hotel has a great selection of dining options for guests. With four restaurants to choose from, guests have plenty of choices to satisfy their cravings. As North Point is mostly a residential area, the hotel’s selection of western cuisine options is a nice touch. During our stay, there was a promotion at their rooftop bar offering ‘free flow’ of bubbly drinks every Thursday, it is safe to say my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed this.

We booked our stay as tourism was low in Hong Kong (due covid19 restrictions). We loved this place as it is a ‘checks all the boxes’ kind of hotel for an extended stay in Hong Kong. We didn’t feel like this was a 5-star hotel as advertised but found the experience to be overall positive. If the prices remain the same for our next trip to Hong Kong, you would find us here!
