Background
I recently visited the RedDot Hotel in Taichung, Taiwan for a short trip in November 2022. Upon walking into the lobby, the vintage, bohemian, and chic décor immediately took me to a different world. The unique-styled chairs in the seating area, as well as the adult slide, added a playful touch to the hotel’s character. Although the hotel is not huge, it uses the space efficiently, making it feel neither cramped nor sparse.

Where is it?
Located in Central District, the Red Dot Hotel is just a 9-minute walk to the famous Zhonghua Road Night Market and many other attractions. The hotel is also surrounded by hidden alleys filled with local eats that guests can explore endlessly. For those who want to explore further out into other districts, the hotel provides bike rentals free of charge.
What’s it like?
The Red Dot Hotel boasts a stunning interior that makes guests forget which city they’re in. The industrial, bohemian, and modern touch to the décor creates a unique stay that focuses on design but does not compromise on comfort. Despite its location on a busy street in central Tai Chung, the rooms were quiet and provided a calming atmosphere. The rooms themselves incorporate a modern 70s design that includes touches of floral and colour.
The rooms
With 55 rooms available, the Red Dot Hotel provides all the necessities for a short stay in the city. We booked a Classic Double Room for the two of us, which allowed lots of walking space and a spacious bathroom. The hotel provided a cute take-home amenities box shaped like a bus, which would make a special souvenir for families with kids! Although the one-person working desk was adequate, it could have been bigger to accommodate working guests since the rooms were spacious enough.
Amenities
The RedDot Hotel provides 24-hour reception services, and the interactive lobby is something worth experiencing. Guests can take the stairs or elevator to the 2nd floor and go on an adult slide that takes them to the front desk!
The hotel also provides a fitness centre, but it was not well-equipped. Despite this, the hotel has many great photo opportunities, making it an ideal spot for travellers who love Instagram-worthy shots. Additionally, the hotel provides bike rentals for guests to explore further into the city.
Food and beverage
The hotel’s casual restaurant offers free breakfast to guests staying at the RedDot Hotel. The breakfast was a la carte style, where each guest could choose a drink, soup, and entrée. Our server was great and the food was what we needed in the morning. However, since the breakfast was free, we didn’t find it special and opted to save our stomachs for some traditional Taiwanese breakfast from the busy street vendors the following day.

Overall, the Red Dot Hotel provided a lot of character despite its small size. This hotel would be an excellent choice for families with kids or even a fun girl’s trip, as there are child friendly facilities and many photo opportunities throughout the hotel. Although the hotel has all the necessary amenities, the standard of these amenities is subjective to the guests.
