Background
We visited The Regent Taipei in October 2022. It is considered to be “one of the most luxurious hotels in Taipei”. Although the exterior is not considered modern, once you step inside you would be surprised how well maintained and full of charm this hotel really is.

Where is it?
Regent Taipei is located in the busy hustling and bustling Zhongshan district. The Zhongshan area offers a variety of culinary restaurants from street vendors to fine dining options. It provides more of a elevated local experience compared to other districts. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the Zhongshan MRT station, 18-minute walk from Taipei Main Station (terminal stop from the Airport Express Train).
What’s it like?
What is special about this hotel is that it seems to be a guest favorite amongst local and even international celebrities. The clientele also spans across veteran guests and first-timers despite the first impression of the older exterior of the hotel. However, once you step inside its grand foyer, you will understand why this hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels in Taipei. You will experience 5-star service the second you arrive at their entrance. The hotel also conveniently sits on top of Regent Galleria, an upscale luxury shopping center with some of the finest high-fashion boutiques and restaurants.
Although we did not see any celebrities, it was rumored during our second day of the stay that the current prime minister of Japan would be arriving and the energy at the entrance definitely gave us an adrenaline rush. Maybe we will have better luck scouting next time.
The rooms
The Regent Taipei has 478 guest rooms and 60 suites. (2 twin beds with city view)
We booked our hotel room through the Fine Hotels + Resorts program with our American Express Platinum credit card. This program allows us to experience a premium experience at any of the 2000 hand-picked hotels around the world. Some of our benefits include: room upgrade, daily breakfast, guaranteed 4pm check out, and hotel credit.
We originally booked the 2 Twin Beds with City View through the Fine Hotels + Resort program and was able to be upgraded to the Premier Room with City View. It was so spacious with 2 double beds, a generous living area, a spacious desk space, a corner view of the beautiful city, and a full ensuite bathroom with a shower and soaking bath.
What my partner adored the most from our room was the bidet in our bathroom that included many settings in temperature and water pressure. You would definitely find him there for the majority of our stay.
Amenities
Some of our favorite amenities at the hotel is their well-equipped fitness centre/gym. This is very important for us as we travel a lot and having an impressive gym helps us keep our routine during our travels. The Regent Taipei also has a spa that I’m sure is extremely serene, but we did not get to experience this during our stay. Other amenities include a roof top outdoor pool. As the exterior of the hotel is dated, the pool environment serves more of a functional amenity rather than a gorgeous poolside photo opportunity. None the less, it is to note that the pool is a generous size despite Taipei being a square foot cautious city.
Food and beverage
Thanks to our Fine Hotel + Resort benefits package, we were able to experience and enjoy the famous breakfast buffet at Regent Taipei. It is said that this breakfast is so appealing that many locals pay to dine here regularly for their breakfast meal. I must say I was very impressed with the variety and detail in every dish. There are sections that feature different cuisines such as American-style, Japanese-style, Korean-style and Taiwanese-style stations. Many dishes are served with a variety of condiments to tailor to each guest’s dining taste.
Other dining options at the hotel include: Mihan Honke (Japanese), azie (casual Eastern and Western fusion), Brasserie (made to order pasta and noodles), and Robin’s Grill (seafood and steakhouse). However, as our stay at the Regent Taipei was short, we did not get a chance to experience all the dining options provided.
Verdict
After our stay at the Regent Taipei, I must agree that it is one of the best luxury hotels in the city. It definitely provides the it factor when it comes to luxury and cultural experience. As it is one of the older hotels in the city (opened in 1990), it is well preserved to give guests a fine balance of tradition and modern luxury during their stay. The price tag for this hotel is not cheap but what the hotel has to offer definitely elevated our stay in Taipei more than we expected.
